The Elizabethan Towers Hotel formerly on the corner of Grattan and Elizabeth Streets in Parkville has been demolished by Melbourne University developers. The Hotel boasted the only exposed spiral staircase in the Southern Hemisphere and was a protected Architectural landmark by the City of Melbourne. Film Art Doco’s Against the Innocent featured the building with the extraordinary cinematography of Russian trained Vladimir Kromas. Director Daryl Dellora said he was saddened to see this unusual and beautiful lardmark obilerated by developers. “It is another part of the unique story that is Melbourne, now gone for all time.”
